Need the inside scoop on raising capital? Exploring outside equity, debt or other options? Learn what investors look for and the different criteria by funding source.

This session will provide perspective to entrepreneurs in the natural products arena on key considerations when contemplating a capital raise – whether from outside equity, debt or some sort of hybrid instrument. This real-world perspective from an entrepreneurial view will be invaluable. You will also have great chance to network and discuss common considerations among fellow entrepreneurs.

MIKE DOVBISH

CHRIS RUNNING

Founder and Former CEO, CAVEMAN FOODS

Since 1987, Chris Running has held CEO roles in retail, consumer products and professional services companies. A serial entrepreneur, Chris has founded or co-founded seven start-ups and completed three turnarounds. Prior to his entrepreneurial ventures, Mr. Running held senior-level finance positions with Sony Corporation and Container Corporation of America. 

In 1999 Chris founded Wirestone, one of the largest digital marketing agencies in the U.S., which was acquired by Accenture in 2017. In 2004, Chris co-founded Cytosport Beverage Company, with its flagship product, Muscle Milk. Cytosport was acquired by Hormel Foods in 2014. In 2008, Chris co-founded Eternal Beverages, a premium, naturally alkaline bottled water company and in 2009 launched the world’s first patented, clinically-proven anti-aging beverage, FIX.

Chris founded Caveman Foods in 2011.

Chris holds a B.A. in Accounting & Finance from San Francisco State University. Chris and his wife reside in Incline Village, Nevada.

 

KATE HARBIN CLAMMER

Founder, Essential Investment Capital and Managing Director, Source Capital, LLC

Kate is a Managing Director of Source Capital, LLC, a private equity firm she co-founded in 2002.  Source Capital provides both equity and debt to companies in the lower middle market of the United States.  In addition, Kate founded and leads Essential Investment Capital, which invests in early stage mission driven consumer products and health care companies. Investments include Safe Catch, Green Zebra, HYMN, 11 Honore and Amarium.

Prior to Source Capital, Kate was a Principal at Accel-KKR, a technology focused private equity investment firm foundedby Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Accel Partners. Prior to that she worked at Sandler Capital Management, a media and communications-focused investment firm. Kate began her career at McKinsey & Company, a global strategic management consulting firm.  Kate graduated with honors from Princeton University and got her MBA at Stanford Graduate School of Business.

In addition, Kate serves as a Trustee for Tipping Point Community and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (the de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor).

 

DANIEL KURZROCK

Chief Grain Officer and Co-Founder, REGRAINED SUPERGRAIN

Dan is the co-founder and Chief Grain Officer of ReGrained. Dan founded ReGrained out of his hobby for homebrewing beer, where he first discovered that “spent” grain could be given a delicious second life. He is now obsessed with the impact edible upcycling and closing nutrient loops can have on our food system. Dan holds an Economics degree from UCLA and a Sustainable MBA from Presidio Graduate School.

ReGrained is a mission-driven food-tech company that is transforming food waste and byproducts into edible, tasty ingredients and superfoods. ReGrained’s first product is SuperGrain+ flour, a versatile high-protein high-fiber flour produced from grain rescued and upcycled from the beer brewing process. DANIEL GLUCK

Founder, HEALTH WARRIOR and Partner, POWERPLANT VENTURES

Dan Gluck is currently a Partner at PowerPlant Ventures. PowerPlant Ventures is a venture capital fund shaping the future of our global food system to deliver better nutrition in more sustainable and ethical ways. PowerPlant invests in early and mid stage growth CPG food, beverage, foodservice and food-tech companies. Select investments include REBBL Beverages, Ripple Foods, Beyond Meat and Thrive Market.  Additionally, Dan is also the co-founder of Health Warrior, which is a fast growing plant-based superfood CPG food company. Prior to Dan’s food & wellness endeavors, he was a Portfolio Manager, Partner and Executive Committee Member at Weiss Multi-Strategy Partners, a multi-billion dollar investment management firm.
