With post-EXPO West excitement and trends fresh in everybody’s mind, Naturally Bay Area has invited buyers from top retailers to reveal the industry trends they are excited about and share tips on how to be successful at their stores. This session provides insight into the trends they’re seeing, reviews timing and criteria, touches on preferred marketing support tactics, and explains how to set yourself up for success.

Jen Berliner, Naturally Bay Area Board Member and Head of Marketing, Sales, and E-commerce at Patagonia Provisions, led the discussion with our panel of retail professionals:

Here are a few highlights from the discussion:

  • 8:37Thuy Nguyen, Category Manager at Thrive Market, shares her excitement for trends that she saw at EXPO, including regional asian flavors and more innovation and specificity in that space. Thuy expressed her excitement to see more brands also focusing on regenerative ingredients, which along with convenience foods, have been important variables to Thrive.

  • 15:20 – Tobi Seriki, National Category Director of Albertsons, discusses the trends she is focusing on, noting the importance of capturing the future, today. She notes that consumer expectations are changing rapidly, and she emphasizes the importance of anticipating and creating new consumer needs that they may not even know they have.

  • 22:42 – Patrick Wyman, Local Forager at Whole Foods Market, notes that he looks at brands success on an annual basis. Although getting on the shelf is a tremendous effort, it really is only the beginning. He suggests going into your first year on the shelf hot and with a plan, but also with an ability to adjust to feedback.
